Considering there are many people who think just because I am Pagan, means I dance naked under a full moon, coating myself in the blood of innocents and sacrificing animals to some nameless dark god. newsflash. I don't do that =P. I'm the biggest tree hugging dirt worshiper you could ever meet. I don't even kill spiders in my own house because I think it's bad Karma, so I capture them and put them back outside. I'm that person who will pick up dying butterflies on the side of the road who smashed into a car window and place them on some cool green grass so their final moments can be lived in the beauty of nature. I know, I'm a teddybear.
But as far as animal sacrifices go, I'm completely against it. This topic reminds me of an old journal post I had made about a year ago. There was a story in the news about a houseful of dead animals and it was thought that they were used for sacrificial purposes. I had checked the news on my Wii. One of the stories reads "hundreds of dead animals found in Philadelphia home." curious, i clicked on this story. Police found 400-500 dead animals (turtles, deer and other animals), DEAD! and not just dead, it "appeared to be some sort of religious sacrifice. the home was rented and they still haven't found these people.
now, here's my beef. i'm no crazy PETA member about to go on a rampage BUT!
1.) apparently according to the article, Bengal of SPCA says "there is no law in against sacrificing animals for religious purposes as long as it is done humanely"
and
2.) Pennsylvania game commissioners said "if the residence had a permit or license to capture the wildlife, it could be OK."
a report of dogs living in unsanitary conditions lead the SPCA to investigate!
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!! Seriously? Taking the lives of living creatures is perfectly OK if it's done humanely? So as long as the animals were killed quickly and without pain apparently they don't care if you sacrifice animals as long as it's humane and you have a permit to keep such animals in your residence.
I'm not vegan or vegetarian (although I grew up being vegetarian simply because I didn't like the taste of meat), but slaughtering countless animals for no reason what so ever except as a sacrifice? I thought animal sacrifices went out back with the romans! Apparently not! I could understand people killing animals for food. Ok so becoming a nice juicy slab of veal might not be a great life for a calf, but at least they are serving a purpose! A legitimate purpose of feeding people. With hunting, at least it's keeping the population in check so there aren't starving deer running around getting hit by cars.
I'm just against the kind of senseless slaughtering. If you want God/The Goddess, whatever you decide to call IT to listen to you that badly, I don't think killing their furry children is a good way to get it's blessing. Just saying.
