"When do you start shopping for presents for the holidays?" - Anon
Well, as weird as this might sound, I usually start somewhere around September. Just think about it. All the Labor day sales and such going on, why not save yourself some money and grab some well priced items around that time of year and simply hide stuff in closets and such until the holiday season comes around?
Honestly, I've been known to shop for Christmas stuff a few days after Christmas. You walk into all the super markets and dollar stores after Christmas; think of all the clearance items! Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, plushies, little holiday scented candles and bath sprays. Think about how much you are saving in the long run by just grabbing stuff when it's on clearance? I mean, I'm no cheapskate, but in this economy you gotta save it when you can and every little scent truly helps.
But I start shopping, pretty much year round I would say. If I see a really good deal on something someone i know would want and love, if I have the money to spare at the time, I usually pick it up for them.

Gobble, gobble, gobble
"What did you do for Thanksgiving this year?" - Dave
Well, I managed to borrow the car from one of my roommates who wasn't doing anything this year around and I went and picked up my boyfriend and we headed over to my mother's house for dinner. It was really nice to be able to bring my BF around during the holidays (even though he really isn't a big food holiday person).
My mom made all the usuals turkey, stuffing, cranberry jelly, mashed potatoes, peas, broccoli and cauliflower casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potato bake, and biscuits. Which is amusing because I don't eat the first three things I named on that list. Isn't that horrible? The main three things people normally associate being at thanksgiving dinner and I don't eat them. I've never liked turkey ever since I was little. I hate the texture and mushiness of stuffing, and cranberry jelly is just... odd. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do with it.
But all in all, we had a pleasant time. The dogs got to eat the scraps after they spent the entire time begging at the table despite my mother telling them to go lie down. It was a good chance to see my boyfriend and spend a little bit of time with him. It was nice ^_^

1 Month and Counting
"With a month to go, what are your plans for Christmas?" - Anon
Well, usually my plans for Christmas don't happen directly on Christmas. For the most part I've just spent my Christmas spending time with whomever I'm dating/living with at the time but for the first time in a few years now, it doesn't look as if I'll even be doing that this year. My family lives an hours drive away so it's tricky to go and see them (especially if the weather is not favorable), so it's not always doable.
As far as my plans for this Christmas goes though, I do hope to see my boyfriend and go visit at least my mother if not my father as well. I want to bring my boyfriend home for the holidays, especially since he hasn't always had the nicest of holidays, I want him to feel special and enjoy the loving feeling I've always found the holidays to encompass. I want him to feel like he's part of a loving family (which he now is). I may not be able to actually accomplish all this on the 25th, but around the time of Christmas is when I plan to do all this.
I personally work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I work at an Amazon.com warehouse so there is no time off for us, especially around our busiest season of the year. Although, I'm pretty sure i'll be getting holiday pay for working both those days since they just so happen to fall on my normal shifts, so I guess I really can't complain all that much.

Lights, Camera, Action!
"What are your top 5 movie picks and why?" - Anon
1.) Legend (1985)
Let me start out by saying I am absolutely in love with this movie and have been since I was very little. It has some of my favorite things in this movie: unicorns, fantasy, gorgeous costumes, Tim Curry, and fantastic music. It's your typical fairy tale story, girl loves boy, bad stuff happens, Tim Curry is the Ultimate villain as usual, but it's just very nicely done. Also, it definitely helps that the score to the movie is fantastic! The soundtrack was done with a collaboration between Tangerine Dream and Jon Anderson so you know it's awesome!
2.) Scott pilgrim vs. The World (2010)
AWESOME! Just simply put this movie is made of win and awesome. Let me start out by saying that in no way am I a Michael Cera fan, but this movie is phenomenal! Also, I couldn't stand Garage Band style music before I saw this movie, but ever since then, I'm absolutely hooked. The humor is totally geeky and plays off of a bunch of video game references, the music is catchy and fits every situation perfectly, Wallace is quite possibly the funniest character in the movie. It's just all around a fantastic film. There's a reason I went to see it in theaters 3 times.
3.)RENT (2005)
RENT was absolutely amazing when adapted into a movie. Most of the original cast was brought back to play their characters in the movie which was amazing. I still watch that movie to this day and cry just because you really get to know the characters in the film and feel like you connect with them. The music is incredibly catchy and you find yourself singing along through all parts.
4.) Moulin Rouge (2001)
I just absolutely love this movie. First off, Ewan McGregor can sing! As well as Nicole Kidman! I was very proud of all the actors/actresses in this film because not only did they sing all of their own material, all of it was shot ON SET and not in some studio where they could work the studio magic to fix things on the track. It's a fantastic tale of forbidden love and how even those with the most closed of hearts will find love when they least expect it.
5.) Phantom of the Opera (2004)
I have always been in love with this story. A socially awkward musical genius falls in love with a beautiful dancer after realizing she has an amazing voice. But then the childhood sweetheart comes back to mess things up. Despite the Phantom being horribly disfigured and having many flaws, Christine has learned to look past all this and love him for who he is, even if only as a friend. The music was incredibly well done in this interpretation of the book/play and after seeing The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, honestly I liked the movie better. (i know that's horrible)

Om Nom Nom
"What are your fave thanksgiving dishes?" - Anon
Well, first off, I can't stand turkey. So usually on my thanksgiving dinners I make Ham. Just something delicious about a nice tender ham marinated with clove and brown sugar and honey. So sweet and tender ^_^. I also must have mashed potatoes and peas. I don't know why, but growing up I couldn't stand eating peas, so my mother showed me to take the ashed potatoes and dip them in the peas and ever since then I've been able to stomach them and actually enjoy eating the like that!
My mother always made a broccoli, cauliflower and cheese casserole for thanksgiving. It was really simply to make too. You just layered crackers, butter, veggies, butter, crackers, butter, veggies, etc. And cheese. Nice gooey chunks of Velveeta. You throw it in the oven and bake it up and it comes out sooooo nice and crispy. It was always one of my favorites. As well as green bean casserole and sweet potato bake. Just something delicious about eating the gooey crispy marshmallows off the top of the sweet potatoes.
And of course, pies. My favorites are pumpkin pie with a cream cheese topping baked on as well as a nice cherry pie and maybe on occasion a slice of apple pie, but as you can tell, my family always had some good food at the table come thanksgiving.

Let Us Give Thanks
"What are you thankful for this year?" - Anon
I am thankful for being able to find myself after much soul searching. I'm thankful that I found the courage to say what has been on my mind for three years and has constantly been on my heart. I'm glad I am finally carving my own path in life and making my own way through all this turmoil. I'm happy that those who I love who have passed have finally found peace, and I'm thankful that in time I am beginning to find peace as well.
I'm thankful for the love of my life, Damen, for without him I wouldn't be here right now. He literally saved my life with his love. before he came along I had no idea what real love was. He came into my life and completely changed me for the better. I wanted to be a better person for him. All the bad habits I had accumulated over the past 22 years of my life melted away without even the slightest bit of effort on my part. It was like second nature to me. It was truly amazing and I'm so happy that he's had this kind of influence in my life. I am so very thankful for love.

The Charms of a Woman
"What's the worst thing about being your gender?" - Anon
Well, this should be an interesting one. There is a long laundry list of things that suck about being a woman. Everything from our physical make up and feminine issues to just flat out stereo types and jokes and such aimed at degrading our gender. It really depends on exactly what is being asked, but since I have all the time in the world, I guess I'll just start rattling them off!
Menstruating! I hate getting my period. Let me tell you it isn't pleasant at all. Whether or not you're one of those ladies who has a light flow and doesn't get cramps, it's still annoying. I have enough things to drag around in my purse, I don't need bulky cotton objects to stop me from bleeding like a slaughtered pig for 5 days without dying. And that's another thing. Purses. I HATE having to carry a purse around, but unless I wanna throw on a pair of mens cargo pants, women's jeans are just not meant to hold your wallet, cell phone, cigarettes, glasses case, sunglasses. There's just too much stuff that women have to carry around with them and a purse seems the only way to accomplish that.
The fact that it's much harder for women to lose weight than it is men. This has always bothered me. And when women do lose weight, the first area is usually where we don't want to lose it : our breasts. Having larger breasts can be a godsend when trying to look thin. It's an optical illusion and all. But let me tell you, I greatly enjoyed playing golf until I hit puberty ad couldn't hit the ball for my life because I had grown a lovely pair of flesh mounds that got in the way of my swing. It's like God's way of saying "get back in the kitchen."
That's another thing. Those "women are only good for cooking, cleaning and baby making" jokes. Now personally, I don't have an issue with these things if only said in jest, In fact, I've been known to make fun of myself for it before anyone else even has the chance to. But if taken seriously, there are a lot of women who have striven to fight off that stereotype for ages and ages and yet here everyone is just stuffing it down our throats again. This doesn't bother me quite as much as the physical things of being a woman but it's still on the list.
Hygiene and things men can do that we cannot. Men can walk around without shirts on but women can't (not in public anyway). It's not fair, just because our breasts are used to feed offspring? We need to cover them up? And shaving... men can walk around looking like chewbacca yet women are expected to stay smooth and neat and tidy and pluck eyebrows and go through hours and hours of torturous beauty routines to stay appealing? I think this is garbage. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy being clean shaven and stuff, but sometimes, when you've been sick with the flu for like a week, the last thing you're thinking of is "huh, my legs are getting stubbly."
And childbirth. Personally, I have never had the joys (or horrors) or experiencing this. I have seen enough on videos and you never see a woman laughing pleasantly while giving birth. Nope. She's always screaming as if a mutant alien from predator is eating her vagina from the inside out. Personally, that's not the kind of thing I look forward to. Everyone says "oh but child birth is a beautiful thing!" I don't care what anyone says! It's bloody, it looks painful, the babies look like creepy goo covered aliens and I've honestly seen horror movies more pleasant than what giving birth looks like.
Eighteen styles of underwear to choose from. This has always driven me nuts. Why do we have so many different types of underwear for woman? Hi Rise thongs, hip thongs, low rise thongs, g strings, low rise g strings, g strings with charms, bikinis, low rise bikinis, hipsters, boy briefs, boy leg briefs, granny panties... like seriously? why do we need all of these? And bras are just as bad now demi cups and lacey crap and straps that go every which way. It's just super annoying. Not the mention the under wire rubs funny.
Well, I think that's a pretty good list!
